Jason Lorimer is the founder of Recon Labs and the serial entrepreneur responsible for Publicitr. He took some time to tell us a few of the lessons he has learned from the project, and from the dozens of others he has worked on in the past.

I haven’t had an opportunity to review all the postings on this subject. Something I am sure all the the serial entrepreneurs can identify with, having little time that is. I will try to keep it short. Just leave you guys with the basic principle that you need to hold close to your own self. I am sure that there will be more elaborative posts herein:

Lessons

Understand that you have no idea what is to come.

“If your idea is any good, it will have to be pushed onto the market” Someone smart, somewhere, sometime, said this, and I am not sure who, but what I am sure of is that the statement holds true. Be prepared to make a million quick decisions over the the early stage of your business, as nothing will ever go as planned.

Competition, Finance issues, Staff problems, Legal costs.

Your life is going to be a nightmare. However, if you can handle all that, you still need one more thing.

Never Give Up.

That is not to say, if your concept is faulty because of competition or market conditions, you should not address your concept and adjust, or even just scratch the whole idea. (Yes, the whole idea)

The thing to remember is, if you had the intelligence to develop a viable concept at the time, and the persistence to pursue executing it, you should continue on your path, as this is what it takes to make a truly successful person.

Me personally, I had three ventures fail me. Starting at age 18, I had businesses in what were then viable markets and industries. Lack of experience ultimately failed me in those pursuits, but a combination of fierce persistence and the ability to learn from mistakes made my fourth venture a huge success.

Today, we have four successful companies, and a client list that would make any LA or NY consulting firm envious.

I am most likely no smarter then you, nor do I work more hours then you in a day’s time, but I have been consistently working those hours day after day, and regardless of our talents, that is the primary reason we have exceeded on the level we have,

In summation, instead of trying to promote my own companies (which you always should), I will instead post this one quote:

“Drive thy business or it will drive thee”
- Benjamin Franklin

Oops…. I forgot to promote our new product Publicitr. I really think that this service fills a major gap between small to medium size businesses and the PR and Marketing firms that would just as easily drive a company out of business as they would promote them across main stream media.

The exorbitant cost these companies charge are needless in today’s market.

So much for keeping it short….
